Most homework given in Years 1 to 6 will consist of oral or silent home reading and learning of spelling and tables. Class teachers form their class homework policy within these guidelines and communicate it to parents.
Homework will NOT be given as a matter of policy. Rather it will be given according to the child’s needs.
Homework may be set for Students in years PP – 6 from Monday to Thursday. Where students are having difficulties with homework or have difficulty in reading, then parents are urged to consult with teachers. The suggested times are as follows:
10 minutes reading with parents encouraged to further read books to students.
Years 1, 2, 3
Read up to fifteen minutes. Maths and simple research may also be given.
Years 4, 5
Up to 20 minutes reading, maths, spelling and research work.
Up to an hour including reading for 30 minutes and assigned work in maths, spelling and research. Students may be given a form to sign or record for parents to initial.
